Chinese Woman Was Found Living In Internet Café After Going Missing For 10 Years

A week ago, the now 24-year-old Xiao Yun was found alive and well. According to her, she spent the past ten years living in different internet cafes.

Reports from the Star Online and the South China Morning Post indicated that the woman was just 14 when she ran away. Since then, she lived on handouts from other café users and people who pitied her. To get additional income, she worked as a cashier, and was paid to play online computer games like CrossFire.

Police said they found Xia Yun using a fake ID during a routine check on internet cafés. She was taken to the station where she confessed her true identity. The police fined Xia Yun an equivalent of around $150 USD for using a fake ID.

Yun initially resisted, but she eventually agreed to meet with her parents. Her parents apparently did not change their phone number, they were hoping that one day Yun will contact them.

Yun’s mother was quoted as saying, "I have a stubborn personality and a short temper, so I used to scold her. But it's been 10 years and now she's an adult. I will never scold her again."

The family declined further interviews.
