Tourists Watch In Awe As Lions Devour Prey On African Road

Nothing could have prepared Carolyn Dunford for what she witnessed during a recent visit to Kruger National Park.

Dunford was driving through the Orpen gate in the early hours of July 10 when she suddenly noticed cars starting to slow down. It could have been anything and was probably nothing, but she had never been more wrong.

What came to view was extraordinarily surprising. Somehow, right smack in the middle of the road were two huge male lions walking like it was nobody's business.

Needless to say, of course, people were stunned.

But the weirdness doesn't stop there. Out of nowhere, a large kudu bull appeared from the bushes. The first lion seemed unfazed and  surprisingly uninterested in this potential prey. The second lion, on the other hand, instantly assumed the hunting stance and prepared to attack.

The lion chased the kudu down and that's when the first lion joined the hunt because, you know, reasons.

As the other bystanders started to leave, Dunford decided to stay behind.

“The other lion grabbed its throat and then there was no escape.” Dunford wrote on Africa Geographic. “The kudu died quickly and there was little struggle once both lions had it.”

Very few people get the chance to see wild animals in nature let alone see them hunting, which is why for Dunford it's a moment she will never forget (and rightly so).

Dunford adds, “An opportunistic hunt like this is a once in a lifetime sighting.”

We couldn't agree more.
